For someone whose TV outfits include full length faux fur coats and Versace looks head-to-toe, its perhaps not surprising that Taraji Henson, the actress who plays Cookie Lyons on hit show Empire gave the best diva-fashion moment of the Golden Globes.
“Get off my train!”Henson yelled at the guy who stepped on her Stella McCartney gown as she walked up to accept her Best Actress award.(Side note: in another move that makes Henson our favourite new red carpet star, as shed walked through the crowds to get to the stage shed handed out cookies to fellow nominees including Leonardo diCaprio.)http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/fashion/daily/2016/01/10/taraji-get-off-my-train.w529.h352.gif
Henson had good reason to be mad at the guy who stepped on her dress, because it was a Stella McCartney number that had been exceptionally well thought through.“We chose Stella because her work is always modern, cool, and relevant,” Hensons stylist Jason Bolden told Vogue of her Golden Globes get-up.
He also acknowledged that the sculptural column gown was a departure from the actresss brashy, bold styles on Empire.“I appreciate Tarajis fashion evolution but I wanted a departure from how we usually see her.”
Thats not to say Cookie Lyons attitude wasnt still ever-present in Henson.Ostentatiously flashing her bling on the red carpet drew comparisons on social media with the way in which a friend might brag about her engagement on facebook.
And when the mood music started playing over her acceptance speech to hurry her off stage Henson was having none of it:“I"ve been waiting 20 years for this. You gon" wait.”A powerful woman in a powerful dress.
Or, as Stella McCartney herself put it:“Taraji is all woman.Shes both new and Old Hollywood, which is rare to find.”
